FromSoftware, known for its eerie creations, has revealed a sneak peek of the new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring. The preview showcases familiar features like intense boss battles and vast landscapes while also creating an eerie atmosphere.
The trailer starts with a simple, the legs of a robed figure in front of stairs. The scene quickly changes to show some unsettling images. An odd arm is out of a huge egg, leaving its source and purpose uncertain. Then, the quiet is broken by the player traveling to the new area. There’s a spot where you see a terrifying creature: a four-legged animal with a twisted human face ready to fight you. Its appearance is both creepy and strangely familiar. The tweet below gives the trailer so you won’t need to use the main video that is mostly wait time.
The player character faces formidable opponents, including a towering figure wielding a massive blade and another with eerie decorations, moving unnaturally. Each encounter evokes a sense of dread, emphasizing the vulnerability of the Tarnished in the encroaching darkness. One cool thing that I want to point out is the auto-crossbow shown at one point in the trailer.
I attempted to count the number of arrows from the crossbow and failed almost immediately. It’s safe to say there are more than three coming out at once, so it looks like the Pulley Crossbow has been beaten. It may already be overpowered if this offers the same or more damage per shot. It’s almost like having a rifle in the game, but we’ll have to wait to see how effective it really is. Other than that, no other weapon stood out for me personally.
Amidst the chaos, you can spot intriguing moments, like the tree itself. It’s huge, and it wakes up a beautiful woman who seems to have been watching the whole time. I don’t want to speculate or say what any of it means since FromSoftware gave players enough to understand that the game will continue what they love but not enough to understand the story.
