The Elder Scrolls Skyblivion, an upcoming fan remake of Elder Scrolls Oblivion using the Skyrim engine, has officially announced plans for a release sometime in 2025. The release window was accompanied by a trailer, teasing epic footage of the remake, which the TESRenewal modding group has been working on since 2012:
Today’s trailer and announcement are an extraordinary culmination of one of the industry’s most ambitious and promising fan projects yet. The quality in today’s trailer is remarkable, and certainly comparable to the main AAA franchise, an achievement that cannot be celebrated enough.
According to the trailer description, 2025 will be the latest Skyblivion arrives, and with enough support, the team believes they can potentially beat this release window.
Each step of this development has been carefully monitored by fans of The Elder Scrolls series. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion first launched in 2006, cementing itself as a highlight of the franchise, genre, and industry for its potent open world and satisfying mechanics.
The game offered a nearly unprecedented level of freedom, and remains a dazzling example of developers firing on all cylinders, combining the innovation of technology and creative storytelling. That’s a high standard to meet, and by all accounts, TESRenewal will deliver everything fans have hoped for.
According to Skyblivion’s official website, the fan remake will be completely free, although fans of the series will need to own Skyrim, Oblivion, and their DLCs for the upcoming mod to install. Players can expect to see all of the weapons, quests, NPCs and more, including some “custom content”.
Given how passionate and sincere the team’s work has been over the years, it’ll be fascinating to see what fresh content of their own they hope to add.
