Mineko’s Night Market

This story-driven sim was announced to launch for the Nintendo Switch on September 26th, 2023. Although it’s certainly adorable, all of the references to Japanese culture feel inspired, admirable and authentic.

My Time at Sandrock

This open world sim from developer and publisher Pathea Games has been available in Early Access for nearly a year already on PC. However, it finally launches onto the Nintendo Switch this summer. It features absorbing characters, post-apocalyptic Western theme, and a strong variety of sim mechanics.

PlateUp!

This remarkable spiritual successor to Overcooked adds many fun twists on classic chaotic cooking. The addition of automation, restaurant building in procedural locations, and more should be enough to distinguish it from the obvious influences. PlateUp! launches on the Switch next October.

Quilts and Cats of Calico

This cute little game feels much more like a tabletop experience than expected, and perhaps it would have benefited from that medium instead. However, cat lovers are sure to love the adorable art design and accessible strategy. It rolls out on the Switch this fall.

Rift of the NecroDancer

This rhythm game is a fascinating spin-off that feels just a bit too traditional compared to the creative twists of the original game. But the music itself is terrific, and gameplay seems as frenetic as ever. It didn’t get a release window, but is still expected to launch this year.

A Little to the Left: Cupboards & Drawers DLC

The new Cupboard & Drawers update introduces a decent amount of new content, with around two dozen more casual puzzles to solve. But the visuals look a little more refined, and hidden compartments should add fun layers for tidying up. The DLC will be available on Switch this June.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon Puzzler’s Pack DLC

Arriving this spring, the new DLC seems relatively small, but so was the base game. The DLC won’t elevate this one, but it’s still free, and it does have some promising new characters and cosmetics.

Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith

This free update launches on April 24th, 2023, and has a lot of remixing. However, it’s about the right time to revisit classic areas, and there will be three new modes. The devs continue to prove they know how to bend or expand the mechanics in small but potent ways.

Animal Well

This fascinating platformer is now slated to launch in early 2024, featuring a variety of impressive pixel environments that are positively drenched in mystery. There’s a superb balance of beauty and danger in this one, with puzzles and secrets that just beg to be explored.

Crime O’ Clock

This investigation game will launch onto the Switch on June 30th, 2023. The art design pares things down to simple illustrations and colors, but there’s a deeper story and surprising degree of urgency that should please detective fans.

Teslagrad 2 and Teslagrad Remastered

The original game launched nearly a decade ago, but the sequel is finally available today. There’ll also be a bundle with a remastered version of the classic predecessor. The follow-up offers even more arresting and creative visuals, with a better sense of scope and depth, and mechanics that evolve without losing the original’s hook.

Shadows Over Loathing

This stick figure adventure RPG is legitimately funny. The devs cleverly wielded the simplicity to their advantage, combining a hilariously direct tone to larger-than-life situations and characters. The digital version will be available later today.

Blasphemous II

Developer The Game Kitchen returns for a sequel to the smash hit action platformer from 2019. Blasphemous II will be available on the Switch this summer, delivering all-new rugged environments and inventive enemy designs that could rival the original.

OXENFREE II: Lost Signals

It’s been years since the original launched in 2016, and the sequel launches on July 12th, 2023, with pre-orders available today. Boasting gorgeous visuals that resemble the likes of Inside, this supernatural follow-up features the quiet, shadowy suspense of Twin Peaks, waterfalls and all.

Sneak Peek

Fans also got brief glimpses of other upcoming indies, with release dates ranging from today to fall 2023. The full list includes Paper Trail, Little Kitty, Big City, Chants of Sennaar, Brotato, Escape Academy: The Complete Edition, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.
