Artist Kazuma Kaneko, also known as the Demon Artist for his work on the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, had left Atlus after a career spanning from 1988. He has since been working with the mobile game developer and publisher COLOPL on a new intellectual property (IP). More details about this new project were shared in a recent interview on Persona Central with Kaneko and COLOPL manager Keisuke Furuyama.
According to the interview, Tadashi Kaneko began his career in animation and later moved into game development due to his strong drawing abilities. He joined Atlus because of his admiration for the Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei games and wanting to craft similar experiences. Although recognized as an illustrator, Kaneko also contributed to the world-building and conceptual development of the Shin Megami Tensei series.
Kaneko’s decision to join COLOPL stemmed from his quest to apply his extensive expertise, including lessons from previous setbacks, to creating games from scratch. His focus on nurturing compelling IPs aligned with COLOPL’s objectives.
“The project has two main purposes. One is to express Kazuma Kaneko’s worldview through an original IP. The other is to incorporate the latest technology as part of the gaming experience. We aim to utilize these technologies to offer new experiences to users.”

The untitled project is still in active development. Kaneko is focusing on building a strong foundation for intellectual property, with potential plans to expand into other media formats such as anime or novels. COLOPL shares this vision of creating a comprehensive universe. The project’s main goals are to express Kaneko’s unique perspective and incorporate the latest gaming technologies for an enhanced player experience.
COLOPL highlights the difficulties of using the latest technology, such as technical constraints and ethical concerns. The company aims to go beyond just innovation, focusing on delivering truly enjoyable gameplay.
Kaneko has spoken positively about COLOPL’s open work environment, encouraging communication and constructive discussions. He has emphasized the support system that allows him and his team to fully focus on development. COLOPL and Kaneko are both actively seeking passionate individuals who are eager to work on this new IP and can integrate new technologies, emphasizing the importance of thriving within a collaborative team setting.
