Fall Guys, Mediatonic’s hit free-to-play party royale, has confirmed rumors and leaks about the Encanto collaboration. Themed skins inspired by Disney’s blockbuster will roll out in Fall Guys tomorrow, December 29th, 2022. The crossover will feature Mirabel, Luisa, and Bruno. Here’s the new tweet from Fall Guys’ feed:
Disney’s Encanto somewhat has a love or hate relationship with older fans, but it was definitely a massive hit, nonetheless. The movie is full of fascinating cultural influences, vibrant colors, and plenty of charm. However, its biggest draw is surely the music.
The soundtrack for Encanto was absolutely everywhere, and the runaway success of the track about Bruno was remarkable. Besides the contributions of famed artist Lin-Manuel Miranda, every song is catchy, meaningful and unique.
Fall Guys has ventured into a wide variety of collaborations. There was the Gears of War crossover from a couple weeks ago, and broader entertainment IP like Doctor Who and even SpongeBob SquarePants has been introduced. Although Encanto is a Disney film, and appealed to many audiences, the Fall Guys collaboration was met with equal division from fans.
Regardless of your take on the film itself, it’s clear that the Fall Guys devs have pulled off another successful bean adaptation. The outfits in today’s announcement really capture the spirit of Encanto, and that’s the key to every collaboration. Mediatonic has consistently displayed a fine understanding of the characters, and the imagery that makes them iconic or appealing.
The Encanto outfits include some very fine details and patterns, marking one of the most impressive visual translations yet. That’s especially true for Mirabel, whose complex outfits and hair could have easily become a mess in Fall Guys without careful balancing.
