Bethesda has released an update for its game, Fallout 4, that seems to give players a lot more than usual. This update brings the highly-requested feature of controlling graphic quality and performance and fixes several stability and visual issues. Players can now access the update on various platforms, including Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, each with its own specific version.

The most recent update, Next Gen Update 2, was released in response to feedback from the player community. This update introduces the option for players to customize graphic quality and performance settings according to their preferences. You can select from various frame rate targets, including 30, 40, and 60 frames per second, with 60 FPS being the default choice. It’s important to bear in mind that opting for 40 FPS necessitates that the display supports 120Hz. What’s interesting is that Bethesda has a preferred setting.

Another important feature is choosing between visual and performance modes while aiming to maintain the target frame rate. Bethesda recommends that players select the performance mode when targeting a frame rate of 60, as both graphical modes might automatically adjust the resolution based on the scene.

While the latest update introduces exciting new features, Bethesda has advised players to stick to the default settings. I guess they added a bunch of options to customize the experience because players wanted it, so we say do what you want. However, we can’t say we trust it all the way because the last next-gen update wasn’t as good as it could have been.

This update includes various bug fixes and enhancements, such as improved stability, fixes for visual issues, and the reintroduction of Auto HDR on Xbox Series S|X. Additionally, other platform-specific fixes have been done, like addressing the character name field in widescreen mode for PC and resolving issues with load order menus and Creation Club across different platforms. Things you’d expect in this kind of update.

Obviously, the Fallout 4 community is waiting to see how the latest changes will affect the game, especially in terms of performance. Bethesda’s last update caused so many issues that it’s hard to have confidence. However, this may be what we’ve wanted for a while.
