Fallout 5 Has Some Plot Lines Figured Out; Howard Keeps TV Show From Touching Game Plot

Todd Howard, the head of Bethesda Game Studios, has stated that he is actively participating in the development of the upcoming Fallout TV show. This involvement is aimed at ensuring that the show does not disrupt the studio’s plans for Fallout 5. Because Howard is normally responsible for new game development, he knows where the line is and where it won’t be crossed.

Howard has requested that the show’s creators avoid specific plot points or settings intended for the next popular video game series installment. Obviously, the next Fallout won’t come before the next Elder Scrolls, but this makes it seem like some pre-production has been done for Fallout 5. If so, Howard would be the only one who knows when to stop progress into certain storylines.

“Well, there were some things where I said, ‘Don’t do this because we are going to do that in Fallout 5,’”

Todd Howard

Although there’s not much information about Fallout 5, the TV show provides some hints. It’s set mainly in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles in 2296. This puts it after the events of Fallout 4, Fallout 3, and even Fallout: New Vegas. The move to the West Coast suggests that aspects of Fallout: New Vegas might be part of the show’s story. This will give us the information we’ve wanted about what happened after the first two Fallouts and New Vegas. That would be the same area affected by The Courier, The Vault Dweller, and The Chosen One.

While Todd Howard didn’t give much away, what we do know is that this makes the show canon to the game universe. This also confirms that Fallout 5 is in the future for Bethesda and likely won’t be another MMO or live service game.
