Yasumi Matsuno, a developer for many Square Enix Final Fantasy games, including Final Fantasy Tactics, responded to a tweet about a possible remaster for the game. While the response is interesting, what’s more intriguing is the factors around the response. It’s not what you think it is at first glance.
What is noteworthy about this is that when you look at the one who asked on Twitter, it doesn’t seem like a genuine account. It has three followers, no profile picture, and was made in April of 2023 with no other tweets. It’s a strange account to choose to reply to. You’d expect a verified account or at least an account with a profile picture to get a response, but not intended to offend Dragonotdarkflame (@DotDFKx18) this looks like a throwaway account.
I am not going to say that this is an account that Matsuno is related to the account but it is a strange one to pick. What makes it especially iffy is the fact that it happened to be one of the accounts talking about the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster that has been rumored for a while. I’d love for this to be a big conspiracy to get more people talking about a remaster, especially when Jason Schreier confirmed it was coming.
It would make sense that Square Enix would take one of its arguably most beloved games and remaster or remake it. The War of The Lions remaster of the original is fun and you can play on your phone but it’s just so grindy. It’s very hard to get through the story without spending dozens of hours repeating battles to level up.
As I said before, I love the game, so it may be my hopeful speculation that leads me to think the response to the tweet means something entirely different. I wouldn’t put away hope for a remaster at this point.
