Fntastic’s upcoming open-world MMO survival game, The Day Before, is set to launch in early access in just two days. However, it seems the developers still find it necessary to address and verify certain speculations surrounding the game that have been circulating since it was introduced.

Over the past few months, The Day Before was deemed a mysterious title, with some going so far as to label it a ‘fake game.’ This skepticism was fueled in part by an alleged trailer that appeared to borrow heavily from Call of Duty, as well as key art that bears striking resemblances to titles such as The Last of Us and The Division. Reddit users even made a side-by-side comparison, highlighting perceived similarities and raising concerns about plagiarism.

Fueling the rumor were repeated delays in The Day Before‘s release and a lack of substantial gameplay footage until last month, when Fntastic announced that the game is slated to enter Steam Early Access on December 7, 2023. Today, the developer issued a statement addressed to its future players and to those questioning the game’s authenticity.

While drawing inspiration from successful titles is common practice in game development, concerns arise when such influence is perceived as blatant copying rather than innovative transformation. Fortunately, the trailer released last month seems to have alleviated concerns for many fans, suggesting that The Day Before will offer a unique gaming experience.

This situation parallels instances like Genshin Impact, which initially faced criticism for having similarities to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Over time, Genshin Impact has carved out its own identity and proved to be only inspired by Breath of the Wild. Hopefully, The Day Before will follow a similar trajectory.

With The Day Before entering early access, there remains an opportunity for Fntastic to implement changes that could enhance its uniqueness and address any lingering concerns.
