Joshua Ortega, a former writer and co-direction in the Gears of War franchise, will be returning to work on the franchise. It is possible that Ortega, alongside Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski, may be working on Gears of War 6 together.

This news comes from Ortega himself, who made a Tweet about it earlier today. In the Tweet, he discusses the past Gears titles he worked on and announced his excitement to be once again working on more Gears of War content.

As Ortega points out, he co-directed and wrote Gears of War 2, and co-created the story and narrative level design for 2011’s Gears of War 3 together with Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War. The author is also known for his novel Frequencies, as well as his comic book and graphic novel work on titles like Star Wars, Spider-Man, Batman, Star Trek, The Escapist, and The Necromancer.

This is great news for fans of the Gears of War series. Gears of War 2 is considered by many to be the best installment in the series, not only for its gameplay but for its story, which Ortega is responsible for. Gears of War 3, which Ortega also had a hand in, was also highly received by fans and critics.

Though Joshua Ortega announces he is returning to work on the Gears of War franchise, he doesn’t specify exactly what he’s working on. While many believe he will be working on Gears 6, it is also likely that he could be working on comics, a series or movie, or other narrative-driven Gears content.

Ortega recently made a Twitter poll asking fans if they would like to see Gears creator Cliff Bleszinski return to the franchise. This may imply that Bleszinski will be making a return to the Gears of Wars series as well.
