Fortnite has recently expanded its player experience by enabling XP earning on UEFN-built islands, allowing gamers to accumulate experience points at a comparable rate to playing Fortnite Creative islands, UEFN islands, or Battle Royale/Zero Build. With XP gains awarded on a per-minute basis, players will receive their earned XP through an hourly grant to their accounts, which may appear later in their play session or during their next session.

Here’s the official announcement from Epic Games:

Hey creators!

We’re happy to announce that players can now earn XP from playing UEFN-built islands.

For now, XP from playing UEFN islands will be earned by players on a per-minute basis, and will not be tied to the Accolade device. Our goal is for players to be able to earn XP at a similar average rate whether they are playing Fortnite Creative islands, UEFN islands or Battle Royale/Zero Build. We’ll continue to monitor XP gains and make adjustments as needed.

The XP earned from playing UEFN islands will be rewarded to players in an hourly grant to their account, meaning they may not see the XP right away but rather later in their play session (or their next play session).

The Accolade device in Fortnite Creative islands is not changing in function and is still coming to UEFN in the future as the mechanism for creators to distribute XP to their players.

Epic Games launched the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) on March 22nd, 2023, providing creators with a powerful tool to design, develop, and publish games and experiences directly into Fortnite. The UEFN is a key feature of the Unreal Engine, a professional game developer toolset used to create games for various platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, mobile devices, PC, and Mac. The public beta version of UEFN already offers a range of games and experiences, from cel-shaded team combat to ultra-realistic simulations.

UEFN works alongside Fortnite’s existing Creative toolset, enabling teams of creators to collaborate across PC and console platforms to develop and test islands in real-time. The Accolade device in Fortnite Creative islands remains unchanged in function and will be integrated into UEFN in the future as a way for creators to distribute XP to their players.

To further support creators and acknowledge their contributions to Fortnite’s success, Epic Games has also introduced Creator Economy 2.0, which includes engagement payouts for eligible island publishers. These payouts distribute 40% of the net revenue from Fortnite’s Item Shop and most real-money purchases to island publishers monthly, taking into account factors like island popularity, engagement, and attracting new players.

The engagement payout funds are separate from the Support-A-Creator program and are designed to reward island creators who publish content in Fortnite. The Support-A-Creator device has been removed from the game, allowing creators to concentrate on developing engaging experiences without requesting players to use their Creator Code. Players now support creators monetarily every time they play their favorite island or game in Fortnite, with no code required.
