Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, an upcoming film documentary on Hideo Kojima, the visionary auteur best known for the Metal Gear series and Death Stranding, now has an official trailer. It includes some history of the titular creative, behind-the-scenes footage of the development process, interviews, a broader discussion on video game artistry and more.
Presented by PlayStation Studios and Kojima Productions, the doc was directed by Glen Milner. There is currently no release date for the film, but it’s “coming soon”. You can watch the full trailer on the Kojima Productions YouTube channel:
Hideo Kojima is undoubtedly one of the most influential and popular game creators in the industry. Their ability to successfully take monumental risks has resulted in some of the most recognizable and satisfying titles.
So, a film documentary about their process should be very insightful. Not just for the retrospective context of a doc, but particularly with so much coming from Kojima’s own words.
His perspective of the industry, artistic goals, work ethic and early years should definitely invite viewers that would ordinarily ignore the likes of documentaries. It could prove invaluable for developers new and old, both in regard to process and general inspiration. His personality also really got to come through, offering an opportunity for casual fans to get to know him a little better.
The doc should also feel more accessible thanks to the guest stars. Director Guillermo del Toro briefly appears in the trailer, which underlines just how far-reaching Kojima’s artwork truly is. Interviews with people who worked with Kojima, such as Norman Reedus, should definitely provide some interesting thoughts.
The new trailer follows the recent announcement that Death Stranding’s Director’s Cut would arrive on Mac later this year. Even casual fans who enjoyed the game should find something compelling in the upcoming doc.
