Final Fantasy Tactics is a tactical role-playing game developed and published by Square Co. Released in Japan in June 1997 and in the United States in January 1998, the game is the first title in the Tactics series and a cult favorite that is still played today.
Dedicated fans of the game have kept their nose to the ground in recent years, hoping that a remaster of the game might be released sometime soon. Thanks to a cryptic comment from a well-known gaming journalist, it seems like they might be getting exactly what they asked for.
Just hours ago, Jason Schreier responded to a commenter on his Twitter post about Octopath Traveler 2. The commenter stated, simply, “Where is Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster.” Schreier, in cryptic fashion, responded with one word: “Coming”
For those unfamiliar, Jason Schreier is a journalist and author primarily covering the video game industry. He worked as a news reporter for Kotaku from 2011 to 2020, and is responsible for several investigative well-known stories, particularly on the crunch culture within the industry.
While not affiliated with Square or the Final Fantasy Dev team, its safe to say that the veteran reporter can be considered a credible source. The gaming insider seems to have some information he’s not quite at liberty to discuss yet.
Whether Schreier has seen some of the Tactics remaster ahead of its release and is under an NDA, or simply has a well-informed hunch regarding the game, the reporter’s cryptics and cheeky hint at the possibility of an upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics remaster has fans of the game on the edge of their seat.
This information coincides with our last report on Final Fantasy Tactics, where Square developer Ichiro Hazama shared that “The Tactics team is incredibly busy at the moment.”
