The upcoming remake of the classic survival horror game Alone in the Dark shares new details about its gameplay and story. Developer Pieces Interactive stated that players must finish at least two playthroughs to uncover the full story. Completing a single playthrough can take about eight hours but only offers half of the narrative.
Alone in the Dark will include two main characters: Edward Carnby, a private investigator, and Emily Hartwood. Emily asks Edward for help finding her uncle, Jeremy Hartwood, who has gone missing. Players must play the game from Edward and Emily’s viewpoints to fully understand the mystery and the reasons behind the characters’ actions.
“If you rush through the main story, a playthrough will take approximately 8 hours, but keep in mind that you will need at least two playthroughs to get the whole story (one as Edward, one as Emily).”
Alone In The Dark FAQ Post
In the same post revealing this information, the company made sure to let fans know it won’t be a “walking simulator.” The demo seems dull and slow, but the full game has a lot more to offer. So you’ll be able to participate instead of spending 16 hours just watching a story go by.
It is intriguing, and other games have done this before. Resident Evil is an easy one that comes to mind, where players can go through some of the games as different protagonists to see their point of view. This often gave a clearer version of events and let players know what each character was doing. Alone In The Dark sounds like it will have a similar offering.
