The King of Monsters himself has stomped into Minecraft in an official DLC titled simply “Godzilla.” Developed by Team-KYO and Impress, this new adventure world lets players immerse themselves in four distinct scenarios inspired by classic Godzilla films. It also looks a lot like the older Godzilla games from a few decades ago.
The first mode throws you into an escape mission where you need to make sure to use your pickaxe and parkour skills to survive. You have to dodge Godzilla’s fiery breath and navigate a crumbling cityscape, scavenging for supplies while outrunning the radioactive behemoth. For the more strategically inclined, the second mode tasks you with city-building under pressure. Construct towering walls to contain Godzilla’s rampage and protect the hapless populace. You can also just attempt to trap the beast and explore the newly contained chaos.
The last two modes were not revealed, even though the DLC is out. However, images in the blog announcing the release show what looks like a fighting mode. Godzilla looks like he has encounters with other iconic monsters and opportunities to unleash his destructive might firsthand. The DLC also boasts a movie theater hub adorned with Godzilla memorabilia, allowing players to brush up on their kaiju lore between rampages.
The fighting image, which we used as a featured image, really reminds me of the Godzilla game from 2014. It had a fighting mode called King of the Monsters, where you battled well-known enemies of Godzilla.
Godzilla is available now on the Minecraft Marketplace for 1510 Minecons. A free Character Creator item awaits in the dressing room, letting players craft their pixelated homage to the King of Monsters. It’s a great way to celebrate the beast if you’re a fan of Godzilla, and if not, it’s still an interesting DLC to grab.
