Shrines are a major part of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as they help Link understand and practice his abilities, earn Light of Blessings, and so on. They function as puzzles, though, so it may not be immediately obvious what you need to do to complete a Shrine, especially later in the game. If you need help on finding the Gutanbac Shrine Location and how to complete the Gutanbac Shrine puzzles in Tears of the Kingdom, we have a detailed guide for you!
Gutanbac Shrine Location
The Gutanbac Shrine is located southeast of the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island, which you’ll find marked on the map below. On the outside of a Shrine, you’ll see a green, circular symbol with a handprint in the center, which you can approach and Link can touch with his hand to activate and reveal a circular, blue symbol on the ground nearby to mark the Shrine. You’ll then be able to walk through a glowing green door into the Shrine. The Gutanbac Shrine is described as “The Ability to Rise.”
Note: before you enter the Shrine, you will need additional Cold Resistance, which you can gain by eating food that does this.

Gutanbac Shrine Walkthrough – All Puzzle Solutions
There are two puzzles to solve in the Gutanbac Shrine that you’ll have to work your way through using Link’s Ascend ability, which is described as being able to “move upward through solid material and emerge on top of it.”

Gutanbac Shrine Puzzle #1 – Solution
To complete the first Gutanbac Shrine puzzle, you’ll walk forward to the end of the room, which has thick blocks acting as a ceiling. To select the Ascend ability, you’ll need to press L and select it, then look upward toward the ceiling and press A to Ascend and pass through it. This will trigger the game to prompt you to press A again to exit and emerge on top.
After you’ve emerged, just to your right, you’ll see two blocks emerging off of the wall. The very left block (also the smallest) has a treasure chest on top of it, so you’ll want to use Ascend to go through the block to get this chest. Inside the chest is a Stone Axe.
Then, drop back down to the ground and use your Ascend ability to go through the much larger block against the wall and press A to exit on the next level.
Gutanbac Shrine Puzzle #2 – Solution
After you’ve emerged in this room, you’ll have to use your bow and arrow to defeat an enemy, which won’t take too much effort. Once defeated, you’ll want to obtain the next treasure chest in this Shrine by destroying the wood crates to the right. You’ll be able to crawl into this small space and then use your Ascend ability to get to the top of the area where the chest is located. This chest contains a Construct Bow.
Next, you can drop back down to the ground and cut the two ropes that are located toward the left and back of the area, which will reveal a moving platform that you’ll need to get to. You’ll go further to the left and Ascend through the slab bridge directly above you. Now, you’ll need to time your Ascend ability to go through the moving platform. Depending on how you timed it, you will then need to time it to be directly under the higher platform, which you’ll Ascend again through to reach the end of the Shrine.
You can continue your way through the room until you reach the end of the Shrine, marked by the glowing circle with the hand symbol.
As you work through completing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll discover an immense number of Shrines! For example, Great Sky Island contains the first four Shrines you’ll encounter, and they’re all necessary to complete in order to understand Link’s abilities. Each Shrine functions like a puzzle, where you’ll need to figure out how to get from room to the next before getting to the end of the Shrine, where you’ll approach the circular, glowing green symbol and will then receive a Light of Blessing.

You can receive one Light of Blessing for each Shrine you complete, and for every four Shrines completed, Link can upgrade his Hearts (up to 30 Hearts) of Stamina (up to three wheels) to level up. The game describes a Light of Blessing as “a crystal that glows with a light that purges ancient evil and purifies with its radiance.”
We hope this detailed walkthrough has helped you complete the Gutanbac Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and given you another Light of Blessing! Check out more of our Tears of the Kingdom coverage.
