Surprisingly, the official Halo Twitter account shared a light-hearted April Fools’ Day joke on April 1st, 2024. The tweet pledged the long-anticipated, ultimate reveal of Master Chief’s face, a moment Halo fans have wondered about for years. The tweet featured a brief video and the hashtags #Halo and #AprilFools.

The video in the tweet featured Master Chief, the well-known protagonist of the Halo series, taking off his recognizable green helmet. Surprisingly, instead of uncovering the determined face of the famed Spartan, a different Master Chief helmet was revealed. This repeated in a loop throughout the entire video, showing him removing each helmet to reveal another. This amusing and nonsensical sequence was repeated multiple times, gradually zooming in closer with each loop.

What’s funnier is the comments on the tweet. Some fans found it amusing and acknowledged it as a classic April Fools’ prank, while others expressed mock disappointment. This is kind of why most places don’t like April Fools day, because most announcements are just jokes.

While we have a non-canon reveal of Master Chief in the show, the game is the true world, and we don’t know exactly what John (the Master Chief) looks like. This is honestly how I hope it stays because then anyone could be under the helmet. The point is that you can envision yourself as Master Chief, be you white, black, Asian, Hispanic, or anything else. It’s a good way to play on the joke but also to carry on a fan-favorite idea.

While that joke was cool, it came with a real update where you get grunt inspired options in the store.

While this is part of an ongoing joke where players can get new options and maps and such, it’s not part of a joke overall. It’s real and will be going for the whole month, so don’t think this one was a trick. The only trick is the Master Chief reveal.
