A recent announcement made by NetEase Games revealed that they have acquired SkyBox Labs and will provide resources and execution capabilities to assist the Canadian studio achieve faster expansion.
SkyBox Labs is a Canadian video game developer founded in 2011 with offices in Burnaby and Victoria, Canada. It has collaborated with some of the world’s leading publishers, including Xbox Game Studios, Wizards of the Coast, and Electronic Arts, to develop popular titles. While SkyBox Labs has been acquired by NetEase Games, the studio has stated that it will continue to work closely with its current co-development partners and will add new ones in the future.
SkyBox Labs will continue to operate independently with the support of NetEase Games, pursuing creative possibilities and co-developing PC and console products with current and new partners. The Canadian studio will also remain under the supervision of its three co-founders, Shyang Kong, Derek MacNeil, and Steven Silvester.

Simon Zhu, president of global investment and partnerships at NetEase Games, also issued a statement welcoming SkyBox Labs into the NetEase Games family. The Chinese company stated that it is committed to fostering an environment that will allow SkyBox Labs to thrive and operate independently as a game studio.
SkyBox Labs will continue to expand, retain current staff, and recruit new employees in Canada across all game development areas, including art, engineering, design, production, and quality assurance.
