343 Industries has announced that a new cooperative PvE mode, Firefight: King of the Hill, is coming to Halo Infinite. This mode will be free for all players with the December 2023 Update. It’s not exactly what you’d expect from a King of the Hill mode, but at least it’s something new.

As seen in the trailer, Firefight: King of the Hill has Halo Infinite players in teams of up to four players try to capture and defend hills against waves of Banished enemies. The first team to capture three hills wins the match. The mode features nine maps, including three community-made maps. Players can earn XP for capturing hills and defeating Boss Waves, and they can progress their Operation or Battle Pass.

Firefight: King of the Hill has a wide range of Custom Game options, including Lives vs. Revives, Fixed vs. Streak Skulls, Hill capture timers, and Enemy spawn options. The mode is also the most integrated with Forge and Node Graph scripting. Forge creators can use the mode to create linear, wave-based missions.

Skulls are also available through Node Graph to use in any game mode. A typical game of Firefight: King of the Hill lasts between 15 and 20 minutes, but the timer is technically unlimited. Anyone who dies will have to wait a long time before returning. The game is PvE, so you and your team are against the Banished. The Banished count as their own team and will try to take the hill for points too.

If you can’t hold the hill, the enemy team gets points, and that’s how you lose. Winning involves holding the hill for as long as possible. This game mode sounds pretty fun and sounds like a welcome addition to Halo Infinite.
