An update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC) now allows Steam Deck players to access modes that require Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), including multiplayer matchmaking and the Custom Game Browser. The Steam Deck, a handheld gaming computer developed by Valve, was released on February 25, 2022. It uses Valve’s Linux distribution SteamOS and runs Microsoft Windows games through Valve’s Proton compatibility layer. The system also offers a desktop mode for installing Linux applications or changing the operating system.

MCC is optimized for PC and provides an enhanced visual experience with up to 4k UHD resolution and 60+ FPS, along with customizable mouse and keyboard support, ultrawide support, and FOV customization. The collection features six critically-acclaimed titles, including Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST Campaign, and Halo 4, totaling 67 campaign missions.

Future updates will continue to improve compatibility with the Steam Deck. If any issues arise while playing MCC on the Steam Deck, players should submit a Flag Report ticket with a screenshot or video of the issue, which will then be shared with the development team for further investigation.

This update is specific to MCC on Steam, and no download is required for Xbox consoles or the Xbox app for Windows PC.

However, the update comes with some known issues for Steam Deck players, such as incorrect launch options, potential freezing or crashing after leaving a party, and difficulties playing Campaign Co-op or Spartan Ops with PC or Xbox console users. These issues will be addressed in future updates, and until then, players on Steam Deck can enjoy Campaign Co-op and Spartan Ops when playing with other Steam Deck users.
