Hearthstone, the popular digital card game, is looking to add more cooperative experiences to the game. This was revealed at BlizzCon 2023, where the team announced that they are working on a new mode called Battlegrounds Duos.

In a BlizzCon interview with Gamereactor, game director Tyler Bielman, and executive producer Nathan Lyons-Smith spoke about the possibilities of adding cooperative features to Hearthstone through Battlegrounds. Battlegrounds Duos is a two-player mode that allows players to team up and play together. Players will be able to strategize and share minions, and they will need to work together to defeat their opponents.

“There’s something great here. And it’s something we can add to the genre. It’s something we can add to Battlegrounds that allows you to relate to each other in a new way, make new friends.”

Executive Producer Nathan Lyons-Smith

The team is still working on the mode, but they are excited about the potential of cooperative experiences in Hearthstone. They believe that it will allow players to connect with each other in new ways and make new friends.

“That is part of the Blizzard design values and culture. Hearthstone has been looking for a while to figure out how can we allow people a more purely competitive, sorry, more purely cooperative, the opposite, a more purely cooperative experience supported by the game itself, where there’s no workarounds, no hacks, no anything that you can partner up with someone that you know or someone you don’t.”

They expressed their openness to player feedback and their ongoing exploration of innovative ways to enhance the game’s enjoyment. There are various possibilities for cooperative gameplay being considered by the team, but no concrete plans have been finalized.
