Arrowhead Game Studios, makers of the well-liked co-op shooter Helldivers 2, have finally fixed a bug that causes progression issues. This bug was stopping players from accessing harder difficulties, which was pretty annoying. It was a big deal because, according to the developer, it affected 1.3 million players, which is no small number.
Apparently, many players asked for a fix, which is understandable. Arrowhead Game Studios said they knew about the problem and planned a fix, but it took a while to see. According to Videogamer, the developers revealed this fix and how big the issue was on Discord.
The Helldivers 2 developers shared their approach in a recent announcement on the Helldivers Discord server. They handled many requests for progress to help around 1.3 million players who could not unlock certain game levels through normal gameplay. However, this initial wave of fixes led to temporary issues with other account-related features, such as in-game store purchases.
“Earlier today, we ran through a bunch of manual progression requests to fix locked difficulties for about 1,300,000 players who hadn’t been able to unlock them normally. Unfortunately, all of these manual requests caused a bit of a backup in the system that led to some hiccups in store purchases and other account features at the same time. Because of this, we’re looking to push through the rest of the difficulty unlock requests tomorrow over the course of the day in smaller batches. Anyone stuck on a certain difficulty should, fingers crossed, have the issue fixed soon if it wasn’t already fixed earlier today. Thanks as always for your patience.”
Helldivers developer (According to VG)
Players want the difficulty level to be increased for two reasons. Firstly, they want more of a challenge. Secondly, they can’t face harder enemies in easier modes. Harder missions come with more difficult enemies, like the Charger and Bile Titans. Players can also collect rare samples in these missions, which is a significant and infuriating loss if the reason is that you can’t play on a higher difficulty level.
To prevent more issues, the studio is handling the remaining difficulty unlock requests in smaller batches throughout the day. Arrowhead assured players that anyone experiencing difficulty should hopefully have the problem resolved soon if it hasn’t been fixed already today.
I’ve heard of plenty of difficulty issues for Helldivers 2. Apparently, keeping the difficulty consistent with what the player chose is a big issue for the game. I’m not sure how much this fix will help, but if it’s causing more issues, maybe there’s a problem in the backend. We shouldn’t always think the customer is right, but 1.3 million people can’t all be wrong.
