Helldivers 2, a popular cooperative shooter by Arrowhead Games Studios, has been well-received for its strategic gameplay and intense action. The game currently has a four-player squad limit, but that may not always be the case. A developer actively responded to questions regarding expanding the team size.
In a recent conversation on the Helldivers 2 Discord found by PC Games N, a community manager at Arrowhead revealed that the team has discussed allowing larger squads in the future. That may make players happy, but that isn’t to say it’s being worked on. The community manager emphasized that this would require a lot of work. They explained that while bigger squads are something the team has thought about, they are not confirmed for the future.
“The short answer is that I don’t know. I do know that if we ever go down that route, it would require a lot of work. If it’s ever a thing (which I’m not at all sure it will be), it’s in the distant future.”

Introducing additional players into the game would require significant changes to the game’s design to keep it balanced and challenging. With larger squads, the difficulty levels may need to be adjusted, possibly resulting in new difficulty tiers. The game maps might also need to be enlarged to accommodate more players and mission objectives could be updated to suit larger teams.
For now, Arrowhead Game Studios is busy working on the game. They are focused on balancing existing content, fixing bugs, and creating new content like Warbonds. The concept of larger squads is something players may hope for, but it’s not a concrete part of the development plans at the moment.
Honestly, I’d want the game on Xbox before the teams get any bigger. The team size would be hard to fill, and having Xbox players jump in would fill in those spots before any issues come. There’s also the idea that the appeal of Helldivers 2 stems from the need for strategic cooperation within a tight-knit squad of four. Expanding the squad could alter the game’s dynamic. Either way, fans should not expect larger teams dropping onto planets soon, as the developers are currently focused on the existing framework of the game.
