The Helldivers 2 community has been searching the game’s files for clues about future updates. They found unreleased content like vehicles, weapons, and new armor sets. Arrowhead Game Studios warns players not to take the leaks as a definite sign of what’s to come.

An Arrowhead developer, Evil-Bosse, shared some advice on the Helldivers 2 Discord server. He said that he never paid any attention to anything datamined. It doesn’t indicate that something is coming or that it is planned for an update. If anything, it just means it’s there. This statement emphasizes that datamined content may consist of old ideas, abandoned concepts, or elements still in development and subject to change.

“I don’t look at datamined stuff, and I would avoid falling in love with it. Some are old leftovers, some are ancient leftovers, some are things that will pop up in the game.”

Evile-Bosse

The datamined content in Helldivers 2 has had mixed results. Some leaked items, like the Adjudicator marksman rifle and the recent mechs, did make it into the game. However, incomplete stratagems and other datamined features might get cut due to development issues or game direction changes. It’s important for players to remember that leaks show possibilities, not definite plans.

Sometimes, leaving some old code in is better so it doesn’t mess with the game. Sometimes, some programmed code is keeping the rest of the code alive, and no one can tell why. That’s why if it’s insignificant, it’s better to leave it be. That means that while you can find some old code, it can mean nothing.

Datamining can be an interesting way to explore a game’s potential, but it’s important to approach those findings with a balanced perspective. Game development is a complex and ongoing process, and what’s found within the code at a certain time may not represent the final product. It’s always better to take leaks, datamines, and anything not coming from the developer with a grain of salt.

We generally like to be sure to clarify this, but I’ve seen plenty of journalists take too much credence to leakers. Even if they’re well-known or have been right often, I’ve seen plenty of them make mistakes or incorrectly interpret things. So, for datamined information, just add “maybe” to it.
