Arrowhead Game Studios, the creator of Helldivers 2, has announced that players will receive a special in-game item to commemorate a key battleground in the game’s story. The developers have introduced a new event called “Malevelon Creek Memorial Day.” Those who played when Malevelon Creek fell will understand how significant it was.

In celebration of the event, players will receive the “Fallen Hero’s Vengeance” cape. This special cape showcases the well-known skull symbol representing a Helldiver’s demise in the game. It’s worth noting that the cape is purely for appearance and provides no gameplay benefits.

The Malevelon Creek Memorial Day and its associated cape have been created as part of Helldivers 2’s ongoing “Galactic War.” For those who don’t know, there was a time when Malevelon Creek was supposed to fall, so there were overwhelming forces of machines put against players. At the height of it, it was like the entire landscape was filled with groups of bots. Many players died only seconds after landing. What’s cool is that many players remember this and made up the memorial themselves since it was so intense.

Players have dubbed the battle for Malevelon Creek “Space Vietnam” due to its intense nature. The developers seem to have caught on, and a new Major Order was issued on April 1st, challenging Helldivers to recapture the Automaton-controlled planet within 24 hours. Surprisingly, players achieved success in just five hours.

The liberation of Malevelon Creek led to a quick and fierce counterattack from the Automaton forces on April 2nd. Today, a holiday is made, and a new cape is given to honor the fallen. It’s honestly really cool.

There will likely be more battles in this war where players will experience similar situations. However, this is a nice way to keep players feeling like they affect the story. This will make more want to participate in these events and possibly earn more special items. I hope they add this to Xbox so more of us can help in the war effort.
