Aaron Greenberg, the Vice President of Xbox Games Marketing, recently took to Twitter to announce that Hi-Fi Rush has become a “break out hit” for the platform. This statement comes in response to prior rumors suggesting that the game had underperformed despite receiving positive reviews and generating considerable buzz.
Greenberg’s tweet read, “Hi-Fi RUSH was a break out hit for us and our players in all key measurements and expectations. We couldn’t be happier with what the team at Tango Gameworks delivered with this surprise release.”
Hi-Fi Rush was unexpectedly revealed and launched during a Developer Direct event in January by Microsoft. The surprise strategy was applauded at the time, although an Xbox marketing manager noted that it wouldn’t be suitable for every game.
Developed by Tango Gameworks, the same studio behind The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, Hi-Fi Rush is a unique action game where the characters, world, and combat are all synchronized with the music. Players control Chai, a wannabe rockstar who leads a group of allies in rebellion against an evil robotics enhancement corporation through intense rhythm combat. Chai’s heart has been accidentally fused with a music player in a corporate experiment gone wrong, and he must now fight for his freedom in a vibrant animated world.
In Hi-Fi Rush, players engage in rhythmic battles against corporate drones, using timed moves to execute powerful Beat Hits, special abilities, and combination attacks with their allies. S-rank scores can be earned by tapping into the beat and amplifying the player’s skills. Chai and his team face off against bosses from various departments of the heartless corporation, including Production, Marketing, and Finance, with each battle featuring unique music tracks.
The game boasts a compelling mixtape of original music, as well as songs by Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, The Joy Formidable, and more.
