Sony Interactive Entertainment and Guerrilla Games have announced that Horizon Forbidden West has sold over 8.4 million units, and the entire Horizon franchise, which includes Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and Horizon Call of the Mountain, has sold through more than 32.7 million units. The companies also revealed that millions of players have discovered the franchise through PlayStation subscriptions and services such as PlayStation Plus and Play at Home.

Guerrilla Games studio director and studio art and animation director Jan-Bart van Beek expressed excitement for the future of the franchise in a PlayStation Blog post, saying, “Her latest mission takes her to the ruins of Los Angeles in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, and we can’t wait for you to find out where she’ll go next.”

The success of the Horizon franchise is attributed not only to the games themselves but also to the dedicated community and the expansion of the game world through additional media such as comic books, board games, and VR experiences like Call of the Mountain.

While Horizon Forbidden West has seen impressive sales, it has yet to surpass its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, which sold 20 million copies across PlayStation 4 and PC by February 2022. It is expected that Forbidden West’s sales will receive a boost once the game is released on PC, along with its recently released PS5-only DLC, Burning Shores. This move has not been officially announced, but it is anticipated, given that Horizon Zero Dawn was also released on PC a few years after its initial launch on PS4.

With these sales milestones, the Horizon franchise continues to grow and reach new players, showcasing the success of the series and the potential for future adventures in the world of Aloy.
