How to cheese Malenia in Elden Ring – Weaknesses

We'll show you all of Malenia's weaknesses and how you can exploit them in this Elden Ring boss fight guide.
Malenia Cheese Guide

Malenia, Blade of Miquella is an optional boss in Elden Ring that many players have trouble getting past. The twin of Miquella is known as the most powerful of the Empyreans, understandably making her one of the harder bosses you’re bound to face in the lands between. If you’re looking for some ways to make your fight against Malenia a little bit easier, we’ve got you covered with this guide on Malenia’s weaknesses and some cheesy strats to take her down.

Malenia Blade of Miquella Weaknesses

As a boss with a massive health pool, Malenia is vulnerable to the Bleed effect present on some weapons and Ashes of War you’ll find in Elden Ring. This is because the Hemorrhage effect that comes from fully stacking the effect on an enemy does damage that scales with the target’s maximum health, so even especially tanky foes are vulnerable to this exceptional source of damage. Keep in mind that the Hemorrhage effect takes more hits to apply based on an enemy’s Robustness, which is a stat tied to Endurance. Unfortunately, we cannot view an enemy’s stats.

Swarm of Flies is a great incantation for building up Hemorrhage on your enemies. You can find it on a corpse along the east wall of a shallow cave of the Mohgwyn Palace blood marsh.

Malenia is also very easily staggered, meaning that Tarnished using heavy weapons can get her stunned frequently.

Getting behind Malenia is also an exceptionally effective way to take her out. Many of her attacks are fast and wide AOE frontal attacks, so avoiding her front is your best bet to defeat her. To do this, you’ll need a summon or a friend to draw as much of her attention as you possibly can.

This tip brings us into our first cheese strat, which should help most people fell Malenia without much trouble.

Malenia Blade of Miquella Cheese Guide

The first viable strategy for easily taking down Malenia Blade of Miqeulla exploits the weakness I mentioned above; Keeping Malenia distracted. Theoretically, this strategy could work with any really good summon, but to really make the most out of the offline-co-op feature we’re going to be using the Mimic Tear.

‘Mimic Tear’ allows you to summon an identical clone of yourself to fight alongside you in battle. Not only does this clone copy all of your armor, weapons, and stats, but it also has flasks of its’ own to keep it alive in the laboring fight against Malenia. In addition, it doesn’t use any of your FP, instead taking a portion of your health, which you don’t need if you allow your twin to properly steal aggro. As you can imagine, this makes Mimic Tear an incredibly valuable asset, even outside of this specific strategy.

Summon your Mimic at the start of the fight, and have it keep Malenia’s attention for the duration of the battle. Getting too close to her may cause her to switch targets amid combos, but this won’t be a problem with our choice of weapons.

With Malenia good and distracted, make some distance between her and you and attack her with your strongest ranged damage source. Be this a crossbow, bell or spells, it doesn’t matter. As long as your Mimic stays alive and you keep at range, Malenia won’t be able to attack you. She should also attack your mimic in her second phase.

You can find the Mimic Tears in Nokron. They drop after fighting the mimic itself, so prepare to have your own build used against you.

If this strategy isn’t working for you or you don’t want to get the mimic tears, Youtuber Tyrannicon brings us an even cheesier method of taking Malenia down.

For this method, you will need the Ageel’s Flame incantation, a strong shield (preferably one with 100% damage mitigation) and the Fallingstar Beast Jaw weapon.

At the start of the fight, book it past Malenia and head straight for a specific rock in the back of the map, as shown in this image. Here, you’re going to need to jump and use Ageel’s Flame to get a little bit of extra air time, allowing you to land on the branch above.

The Rock Elden Ring

From here, Malenia will only be able to hit you with a few attacks, which should be pretty obvious when they come at you. This is what your shield is for, ensuring you can just block these attacks and stay alive so you can damage her between them.

Your main source of damage will be the special attack from Fallingstar Beast Jaw. This projectifle falls directly down from the sky, hitting Malenia without clipping into the terrain.

Once Malenia hits phase 2 of her boss fight, you will be moved from the ledge back to the center of the map. Run directly underneath her to dodge her huge Scarlet Rot attack, heading straight back to the ledge from before.

When you get there, you will have to summon something to draw her attention away from you. Because Malenia heals on every attack, it’s best to summon something really fast so she is stuck chasing it. With Malenia distracted, jump and use Ageel’s Flame again to get back to your original location.

While Malenia can hit your position with a few more attacks in this phase, you should still be free to do the exact same thing as in phase one, whittling her down until you eventually win the fight.
