How to Defeat Commander Niall in Elden Ring – Weaknesses & Guide!

Bring down Commander Niall in the north and take control of Castle Sol!
Elden Ring Commander Niall

Commander Niall is the harder version of a previous boss within Elden Ring. Anyone who came across Commander O’Neil within Caelid will be at least familiar with the fight. But Commander Niall has far more dangerous abilities that can easily kill players with the huge area of effect. Along with his guards and the arena size, the fight is not easy, but this guide will detail how to take him down.

Fighting against Commander Niall in Elden Ring

Commander Niall is the boss at the end of Castle Sol and he defends some incredibly important loot with massive implications. It’s no wonder then that he has plenty of defense and will use the ice and guards at his disposal to stop anyone in his way. On top of the deadly attacks from Niall, Torrent the mount will not be allowed like it was for the O’Neill boss fight. But there are some great methods for taking command away from Niall.

Elden Ring Commander Niall Fight

Tips for fighting Commander Niall:

  • The bosses guards need to go. They are both tanky with some huge potential damage.
  • One of them has a shield and the other has dual swords. Take them out one by one before moving to the boss.
  • Having a strong summon is incredibly important in this fight, otherwise the guards are far more dangerous.
  • The Mimic Tear Ash or something like Skeletal Militiamen are fantastic for surviving and pull aggression.
  • Niall himself uses his long banner axe to poke and dish out sweep damage. He will constantly use area of effect ice attacks as well.
  • Bleed damage is fantastic against the commander, as well as fire grease.
  • Having more immunity, non-physical damage negation, and Thawfrost Boluses are invaluable.

Niall becomes far more manageable when his guards are gone. His ice will continue to be a problem, so keeping distance is key before going in for nuke attacks. Before long, he’ll be the next enemy fallen in Elden Ring.

When the commander goes down, players can claim the second half of the Haligtree Medallion. This is needed to reach the secret Haligtree area of the map which gives access to entire demi-god fights within the game.

To use the medallion, if you already have the first half, you’ll need to make your way back to the Rold Great Lift in the Forbidden Lands. Change the prompt when you arrive and use the secret medallion instead of Rold. You’ll need all the help you can get in that area though, and for more tips, check out or Elden Ring section on the Site!
