The lakes of Liurnia will eventually lead to Royal Knight Loretta in the Carian Manor, which is needed for a major quest within Elden Ring. The ghost knight that fights with full glory on its spirit horse can take players by surprise and has plenty of potential to take a Tarnished down in just a couple of hits. With the right tools and knowledge of the fight mechanics though, the boss can be taken down fast. This guide will outline how to complete Caria Manor by banishing Royal Knight Loretta.
Fighting against Royal Knight Loretta in Elden Ring
Before going into the fight against Royal Knight Loretta in Elden Ring, you should keep in mind that there is no initial fog door to start the fight. When you reach the end of Caria Manor, there will be a large room full of chairs in a circle. Walking in the center of this will initiate the fight, and Loretta will appear on horseback. This is one of the few fights against a boss on horseback that you’ll be forced to fight on foot.

Tips for fighting Royal Knight Loretta:
- Loretta utilizes a long halberd for sweeping attacks along with magic arrows at range.
- Rolling to early when the knight jumps will typically result in the halberd connecting.
- The bow and magic daggers continue to spawn more throughout the fight, but with some distance, they can be easily dodged.
- Bleeds are essentially useless against the royal knight, but strong attacks can cause staggers fairly fast.
- Having strong magic resistance on, like the Pearldrake Talisman, will negate much of the damage that the royal knight has.
- Charge attacks inbetween the knight’s movements are effective throughout the fight.
The most dangerous part of the fight happens toward the end when the magic attacks ramp up. These can stun-lock players with some really bad luck, but typically they can be avoided. If you can avoid the bow shot, which is charged, then the battle shouldn’t be nearly as deadly.
What is beyond the Royal Knight’s door in Caria Manor?
When Loretta goes down, you’ll be able to leave the manor and head north of the compound. This path leads directly to an area called the Three Sisters due to the three towers that are present in the area. Along with a Glintstone Dragon, you can find Ranni sitting in the middle tower.
This NPC is optional, but leads to some powerful items and a couple of major optional areas within Elden Ring. Skipping this character and the area means missing out on plenty of content tied to Nokron. For tips along the way, make sure to check out our Elden Ring section on the site!
