How to Defeat the Valiant Gargoyles in Elden Ring – Weaknesses & Guide!

Take on both of the Valiant Gargoyles to reach the Deeproot Depths in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Gargoyle

The Valiant Gargoyles are one of the many bosses that you can find as you explore the underground expanse of Elden Ring. Though they are technically optional aspects of Nokron, Eternal City, they block the way to an entirely new area with plenty to explore. But first, you’ll need to take down the brutal gargoyles that team up to make the fight far more miserable for everyone. This guide will outline the attacks the bosses use and techniques to fight them.

Fighting against the Valiant Gargoyles in Elden Ring

When the fight begins, Elden Ring players may be tricked by the single Valiant Gargoyle that jumps from the rocks above. The gargoyle is tough on its own, but it’s definitely manageable in a solo fight. Don’t let that fool you though, because a second Valiant Gargoyle will appear that utilizes a twinblade weapon. Both of them together work in tandem to make sure earning a hit is as difficult as possible.

Tips for fighting the Valiant Gargoyles:

  • The first gargoyle will utilize both a great axe and a sword depending on the moveset.
  • Gargoyle two will use a twinblade and an axe to cause sweeping damage and tremors on the ground.
  • Both will spit poison on the ground the causes damage as well as buildup.
  • The fight will start with a single boss, and when that boss reaches half health, the other will appear.
  • Burning the boss at half health with a summon such as a mimic is the best bet.
  • You will have about 10 seconds to burn that boss before the second comes in to help.
  • Massive weapons with stagger or spells are the best tools, and bleed damage is essentially useless.

When the fight is over, you will be rewarded with a weapon from each gargoyle on top of about 80,000 runes. With both of them destroyed, the next area can also be accessed, but getting there isn’t immediately obvious.

Reaching the Deeproot Depths in Elden Ring after the Valiant Gargoyles

Towards the back of the boss arena, there will be a waterfall and a dead end. However, you’ll find that a closer inspection brings a Lost Grace site and an abandoned coffin. This coffin theme is something players will need again as they reach the Lake of Scarlet Rot. Interact with the coffin and a cutscene will begin to open up a new area underground.

This area and the fight as a whole is not easy and you may need to come back if there is too much resistance. But with any luck, the gargoyles will go down and the fight against the underground can continue.

That’s everything you need to know about defeating the Valiant Gargoyles in the game! Be sure to check out the Elden Ring section of our website for more great guides.
