How to fish Shallow Water in Dredge
To fish in Shallow waters in Dredge, you need to purchase a fishing rod capable of fishing in shallower waters. Early on in the game, the first two rods you’ll have access to are the Simple Skimmer and the Weighted Line Rods.
Both can be purchased from the Shipwright in The Greater Marrows for $75.00 and $150.00 respectively. The Simple Skimmer ($75) takes two hours to install, adds +10% fishing speed, and catches in Shallow water; it’s described as a “lightweight rod suited to catching fish that live in the shallows … a small spool makes for limited reeling speed, however.”
The Weighted Line catches fish in Shallow water and is +40% fishing speed, and it will take three hours to install. The game describes it as “strengthened lines can catch larger and deeper fish.” This is the better of the two shallow-water fishing rods to get early on, but it really depends on whether you have the funds for it yet.
Once you’ve obtained the proper equipment, you can take your boat out and look for your radar to be triggered by disrupted water and show a ‘shallow’ reading.
It is important to have a range of fishing rods and catching equipment in order to bring in a diverse catch each time you take your boat out. For example, you will come across different depths of water just leaving the starting area (The Greater Marrows) on your very first expedition from shallow to coastal. Since one of the primary goals is to sell fish and maximize your profits, being able to fish all possible areas you encounter will improve the profits from your catch.
You’ll also need to research special equipment and upgrade your boat’s capabilities in order to catch rarer fish and more valuable, deep-sea curios and hidden treasures. Selling these discoveries to the locals can also lead to learning more about each area and upgrading the boat to reach even more secluded locations.
