DNF Duel is the newest fighting game developed by Arc Systems Works, the undisputed kings of the fighting game genre. This new brawler has a wide array of unique mechanics and a stunning roster of characters with further unique moves. While mechanical skill is key to winning any fighting game, it’s important not to underestimate the power knowledge can give you over your opponent. Understanding core game mechanics can give you a huge edge over an opponent who doesn’t know them. In this guide, we’ll help you get better at DNF Duel by teaching you how to guard cancel.

Guard Cancelling in DNF Duel

Guard Cancelling in DNF Duel is also known as an Alpha Counter. To activate your alpha counter, you need to press back (moving away from the opponent) and the skill button (Triangle or Y on controllers) while guarding. This move will block the enemy’s next ability while doing damage to them.

Be careful when using your alpha counter, as this ability is as expensive as it is powerful. Using your alpha counter will cost 100 MP. Using this strong ability too much will leave you lacking in resources and wide open.

Guard cancelling is best used to catch your opponent off guard and punish them while avoiding damage from a powerful attack. Throwing off an opponent’s combo and starting a high damage chain is a great trade for the 100 mp cost, just make sure you don’t become too reliant on your alpha counter, or you’ll find yourselves at the mercy of players who know how to counter it.
