To make a blast furnace in Minecraft, you will need to obtain a regular furnace, quite a bit of iron, and smooth stone. While these aren’t necessarily hard to get, they will require you to take some extra steps that you might not be used to making.
- Find a Furnace
Getting a furnace is a good place to start since you’ll need one as an ingredient in the final step and most likely will need one to refine some of your crafting materials. The best way to get a furnace in your inventory is to just make one. It shouldn’t take too long since it only takes 8 blocks of any type of stone, a readily available resource. While you’re gathering stone, go ahead and grab at least 4 extra for the next step if you want to get ahead.
You can also mine a furnace that’s already placed in the world as an alternative to crafting one. Furnaces can be mined by any method in Bedrock, including by hand, but in Java they won’t drop anything unless they’re mined with a pickaxe. You can mine your own furnace or find one in various houses throughout the game. With all this said, you’ll need to actually use a furnace for Step 2 and Step 3, so it may be more convenient to wait until after Step 3 to move it to your inventory.
- Get Smooth Stone
You’ll also need smooth stone to make a blast furnace in Minecraft. Fortunately, making smooth stone is easy once you’ve gathered a few basic stone blocks and have a furnace, although smooth stone can also generate in some houses in the game. Plain stone blocks can be found in many locations, but one of the easiest places to get some is by just equipping a pickaxe and digging straight down. You should hit stone bricks after just a few layers, although you may also find plenty of stone blocks making up cliff faces and mountains. - Get Iron Ingots
You’ve nearly got everything you’ll need to make a blast furnace in Minecraft. A few iron ingots are the last items on your list, so go ahead and gather some raw iron, iron ore, or deepslate iron ore. After you’ve gathered these materials, you’ll need to take them to a furnace to smelt them into 5 iron ingots. You can also find iron ingots in chests that can spawn in villages, dungeons, and mineshafts in addition to many other places, but it’s much easier to just craft some. When you have 5 iron ingots in your possession, you’ll be ready to move on to the final step of making a blast furnace in Minecraft!
- Craft a Blast Furnace
Head to a crafting table once you’ve got all your materials. You’re only moments away from cutting your smelting time in half! To make a blast furnace, simply position a regular furnace in the center square of the crafting grid. Once this is in place, arrange 3 blocks of smooth stone in the bottom row with the remaining 5 squares filled with iron ingots.
