Some creations in Minecraft can be very practical but incredibly complicated to make. On the other hand, there are items like paper that couldn’t be simpler yet more worthwhile to make. Paper serves as a fundamental ingredient in the creation of important items, like the ever-critical maps you’ll need to chart your adventures. Besides maps, paper can also be used to make other items that are just plain fun, like fireworks and other exciting possibilities! Crafting paper in Minecraft really couldn’t be much easier, but you’ll still require a few supplies before you’re able to make some.
Creating Paper
Time needed: 5 minutes.
To make paper in Minecraft you need to gather a few items that should be relatively easy for you to acquire. Sugarcane and a crafting table are the only items necessary for this activity. Since getting these items is relatively straightforward, you shouldn’t have to abandon your current plans for much of a detour to obtain what you’ll need. In fact, your supplies can be found anywhere there are trees and water, so searching in places that have both of these items should quickly supply you with more than an adequate amount.
- Find Sugarcane
The first ingredient you should look for is sugarcane. This happens to be the only ingredient that’s actually required to make your paper. Tracking down sugarcane shouldn’t serve as too much of a challenge, as it can often be found near bodies of water along the shoreline in nearly any biome. The only places you’ll have particular trouble finding any is in frozen biomes where the water is frequently replaced with ice. Sugarcane can come in varying heights and concentrations, but with a little searching it won’t be long before you have more than enough sugarcane to make some paper! You’ll need at least 3 units of sugarcane for every 3 sheets of paper you want to make, so be certain to grab a sufficient amount for your plans.
- Get a Crafting Table
Your sugarcane may be the only ingredient needed for paper, but it’s just a sweet stick unless you have a crafting table. Luckily, you can easily create a one, or you may even be able to locate some generated naturally in the world.
To make a crafting table, you’ll have to find some wood. This is most easily done by locating and chopping down a tree to harvest its logs. Once you’ve done this, you can open your inventory and place your logs into the 2×2 crafting grid. For each log you place, you’ll receive 4 wooden planks. This is the perfect number of wooden planks, as you can simply select the whole stack and drop them right back into the 4 slots in the crafting grid. Placing these 4 planks will provide you with a crafting table that you’ll then be able to place wherever you like!
If you don’t want to make a crafting table, then you may be able to find one occurring on its own in the world. The homes within villages can be a good place to find a crafting table, but they can also be found in witch huts, igloo basements, and near pillager outposts. This array of options provides plenty of ways to access a crafting table even without having to make one, so there shouldn’t be too much trouble getting to one. - Make Paper
Nothing stands between you and making your paper now that you have all that’s required, so go ahead and pull up the crafting grid from the crafting table to get started. You should see the sugarcane you gathered below the crafting grid with the rest of your inventory. Grab a stack of it and drop 3 sugarcane all in the same row. This will yield 3 sheets of paper, which can then be moved to your inventory and used to craft other exciting or helpful items. Now that you’ve got paper, maybe a good way to celebrate would be by turning it into a firework and blowing it up – you can always make more by using this guide!
