Immortals of Aveum, an upcoming action RPG blending shooter mechanics with magic from developer Ascendant Studios, has just released a new first look trailer. It focuses on extended gameplay sequences, including a chaotic battlefield full of enemies and a contained boss fight.
Immortals of Aveum announced last week that it would launch on July 20th, 2023. It’ll be available on PC and next-gen consoles for PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch the full first look trailer on the Immortals of Aveum YouTube channel here:
This trailer is very likely to be the deciding factor in viewer interest, finally giving a clear and uninterrupted look at the potential action. It also includes a wide range of features, and not just in combat. There’s a brief glimpse of the Gear page, which showcases the level of density that players should expect. It’s interesting to see how Talents and Spells are differentiated.
There are a lot of dynamic environments in play that should encourage players to interact with them for movement, but the animations still feel a little stiff. Hopefully, these will be cleaned up in time for launch.
Still, it’s nice to see the flexibility of the spells in Immortals of Aveum, and how they can be used to create unusual lines of sight and evasion, compared to traditional shooters. The game allows players to swap spells so quickly, that it should reward them for comprehending their spells enough to think that fast. Ideally, the combat will evolve enough throughout the campaign to avoid redundancy.
The shooting effects almost reach bullet hell heights of visual noise, but they certainly boast lots of personality. The details continue to impress, and the world itself is filled with vibrant colors. If nothing else succeeds, this should be a gorgeous game.
