In a series of tweets, Katsuhiro Harada, the director of the renowned fighting game series Tekken, has confirmed that Tekken 8 will feature rollback netcode and crossplay capabilities. Harada’s announcement comes as the gaming community eagerly anticipates the next installment in the long-running franchise.
In one tweet discussing rollback netcode, Harada stated, “already installed it, and it already has what you want. The reason WHY we don’t make big announcements like cross-play is Cuz even if we make big announcements, people like you will only say things like, ‘waaaa! That’s normal in this day and age.’ So shut up & sit the hell down.” In another tweet addressing crossplay, he mentioned, “Crossplay? Of course, I will. BTW, when the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers. However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused.”
Tekken 8, powered by Unreal Engine 5, is set to be released exclusively on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, showcasing high-definition character models and immersive graphics. The storyline revolves around a showdown between Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima, continuing the franchise’s long-running narrative.
The game also introduces a new mechanic called the “Heat System,” which allows players to use aggressiveness as a tactic and incorporate offensive attacks based on each character’s unique features. Rollback netcode, now confirmed for Tekken 8, works by predicting player inputs, preparing for all possible outcomes, and adjusting in real-time to provide a seamless gaming experience. This system is highly effective at concealing lag spikes or inconsistencies in user connections, as predictions are often correct and unnoticeable by players.
With Katsuhiro Harada’s confirmation of rollback netcode and crossplay for Tekken 8, fans can look forward to a more polished and engaging experience in the latest entry of this iconic fighting game series.
