May is slowly becoming a month marked by delays, as today, less than a week after the announcement of the delays of both Redfall and Starfield, as well as that of Dying Light 2 Stay Human’s first major story DLC, it was just announced that Kerbal Space Program 2, the sequel to the beloved space travel simulator, has been delayed to 2023. This is the game’s fourth delay since its announcement in 2019.

The announcement was made by Nate Simpson, the game’s Creative Director, in a new post on the series’ official forum, as well as through the release of an official Timing Update, also presented by the Creative Director. According to Simpson, in the post, the team decided to postpone the launch to polish the game and ”ensure we hit the quality and level of polish it deserves.”

The Director also made sure to thank the fans for their support, all while ensuring them that their focus is still set on releasing a game that ”performs well on a variety of hardware, has amazing graphics, and is rich with content.”

You can check out the video where Nate Simpson talked about the delay here, as well as his full statement regarding the delay below, as it was released on Kerbal Space Program’s official forum:

Hi everyone – this is Nate Simpson, Creative Director for Kerbal Space Program 2. We have made the difficult decision to move the release date of KSP 2, which will now launch in early 2023 on PC with our console release later that year.

We are building a game of tremendous technological complexity, and are taking this additional time to ensure we hit the quality and level of polish it deserves. We remain focused on making sure KSP2 performs well on a variety of hardware, has amazing graphics, and is rich with content. We’ve built a spectacular team at Intercept Games – a team that includes, as previously mentioned, key members from the development team behind the original Kerbal Space Program. We have the perfect combination of experienced, passionate, and skilled developers to fully realize this game’s ambitious potential.

We are forever grateful to the KSP community for sticking with us on this journey, and we appreciate your continued support as we push towards the finish line. We can’t wait for everyone to play the game, and we’ll keep sharing more information with you in the coming months. – Nate Simpson, Kerbal Space Program 2’s Creative Director

Kerbal Space Program 2 will be a direct sequel to 2015’s Kerbal Space Program. In the game, just like in its predecessor, players will be able to explore the deep space as they build their own space programs, assemble many spacecraft, build a wide array of colonies throughout the galaxy, and discover all of its secrets. As you could check out in Simpson’s statement, Kerbal Space Program 2 is set to be released for PCs in early 2023, with a version for consoles being released later throughout the year. With that said, you can currently play Kerbal Space Program on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
