Kerbal Space Program 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the classic space flight indie, released a new cinematic trailer to celebrate its launch into Early Access today. It is available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The original game took a while before releasing console ports, so a release window for other platforms shouldn’t be expected anytime soon.

It’s hard to believe that the original Kerbal Space Program was released nearly a decade ago. The art design was full of charm, and the mechanics were ambitious for an indie. It also boasted a natural sense of humor.

Although these features have raised expectations pretty high, all of the teases leading up to the sequel hint that the series will retain those winning qualities. It’s a welcome surprise, given that the brand-new studio Intercept Games was added as a dedicated developer for Kerbal Space Program 2.

Today’s cinematic trailer is fast-paced, playful, and has well-staged sequences. The graphics look better than ever, and it’s clear the devs used all of these years of development to fill the sequel with even more personality. The music selection was also terrific, as upbeat and catchy as the game.

It’s important to note that today’s trailer warned excited fans that certain features wouldn’t be available right away. A brief section of the trailer mentions that “interstellar travel, colonies, and multiplayer” will be added into Early Access later on.

Multiplayer would be a brand-new feature for the series, so it isn’t really a necessity for the Early Access launch anyway. It’s smart for the devs to see how fans respond to more traditional gameplay first. However, multiplayer will definitely be a highlight, if it can manage to scale and function properly. Sharing the program experience would still be thematic, and cooperation makes for fun chaos.
