Even though Sabre has been sold, the KOTOR Remake may still be coming, and we've got the details here!

The highly anticipated remake of the classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is undergoing a turbulent development process. It is facing delays and a complex ownership shake-up. Despite these challenges, the project seems to be back on track, but we’re skeptical.

Embracer Group, the company that owns studios like Aspyr Media and Saber Interactive, has announced plans to sell Saber Interactive in a deal worth as much as $500 million. The deal includes studios like 4A Games, known for the Metro series, and Zen Studios, the creators of pinball games. However, Embracer Group will keep Aspyr Media.

Despite the change in ownership, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that Saber Interactive will continue as the main developer on the KOTOR remake. Additionally, Embracer and Saber’s new owner will share the rights to KOTOR, potentially complicating the project’s future direction.

Amid company changes, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors suggested that the KOTOR remake could face further delays. In response to a question about the game’s release within the next 12 months, Wingefors suggested it would take longer, emphasizing the need for “deep love and respect” for a project of this magnitude.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was first announced in 2021 as a timed console exclusive for the PlayStation 5. However, development faced significant challenges last year, leading to Aspyr reportedly pausing work on the project. This resulted in Saber Interactive taking on a bigger role in the remake’s development.

As someone who has also been waiting for this game, I find it hard to believe it is all coming. It’s been a long road with lots of delays and speculation. At this point, I’d say keep waiting until someone on the development side says it’s on track.
