The official Twitter account for LEGO has just revealed another new Mario set, the “Goomba’s Shoe Expansion Set”, due to be released on August 1st, 2022.
Here’s LEGO’s promotional tweet, showing the new feature of this expansion set:
LEGO has been collaborating with the Super Mario IP since 2020, focusing on interactive features with a decent companion app and a sophisticated Mario figure.
Although the most complex, adult-oriented set remains the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System, Goomba’s Shoe is a terrific addition to the traditional series of 3D level-building sets.
In fact, the brick shoe is much more of a toy than some previous releases. Bouncing the shoe to flip the figures inside is a clever elaboration. This will likely be more enjoyable for young builders, because it can also be fun on its own.
Aside from the primary Mario figure, Goomba’s Shoe doesn’t necessarily need to rely on the surrounding level sets, even if that’s the point of the series. This makes the set an ideal gateway for collectors or kids to get into the rest of the LEGO collaborations.
Cost, Size, and Piece Count
According to the Goomba’s Shoe product page on LEGO’s official website, the new Mario set will only cost $10 USD. This is unusual for expansion sets, which generally cost upwards of $20.
Instead, the $10 price tag will be identical to the Bee or Frog “power-up” sets, which simply aren’t as interactive, and should mainly be reserved for level construction.
However, bear in mind that although LEGO promises the set will include 76 pieces, it will only measure around 1.5 inches high and 2 inches long.
This makes the product fairly small, and the product page suggests that you should get the starter set too. Still, at least you’ll get a Goomba, one of the most iconic baddies in all of Mario.
