CI Games, the Polish video game developer known for Lords of the Fallen and the Sniper: Ghost Warrior series, has partnered with Microsoft. As part of the collaboration, both Lords of the Fallen and Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 will be added to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The agreement was finalized on May 3rd, 2024, and the games are expected to join the Game Pass library in 2024.
The addition of these titles to Xbox Game Pass is a big step for CI Games. Game Pass allows subscribers to play a wide range of games, giving the included titles a lot of exposure to many players. This move could lead to a big increase in visibility and potentially attract new players for both Lords of the Fallen and Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 (thanks, Bankier).
The agreement is pretty hard to understand, which is why I am explaining it so thoroughly, but here’s the full statement:
“Current report number: 21 /2024
Date: May 5th 2024
Legal basis: Art. 17 section 1 of MAR – inside information
Subject: Agreement on the distribution of the games in Game Pass program The Management Board of CI Games SE with its registered o\ice in Warsaw (the “Company”) announces that on May 3rd 2024 the Company has signed the agreement with Microsoft Corporation, with its registered o\ice in Washington, USA (“Microsoft”), to provide the games “Lords of the Fallen” and “Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2” from the Company’s portfolio (the “Games”) in the Game Pass program conducted by Microsoft in year 2024. Under the agreement, the rights to the Games will remain with the Company. Disclaimer: This English language Translation may contain certain discrepancies. In case of any di\erences between the Polish and the English versions, the Polish version shall prevail.”
Official agreement
This agreement allows CI Games to maintain its rights to both games. While the games will be on Game Pass, CI Games will still own the intellectual property. This means they can make money from the games being on Game Pass and have control over possible future sequels or spin-offs within the franchises.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers will probably be happy about this news. The service is known for offering great value, and adding these popular titles will make it even more appealing. Lords of the Fallen is an action RPG influenced by the Souls series and Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 offers a tactical sniping experience with open-ended missions.
To clarify, this does not mean that Microsoft will own the company or make the games exclusive. It just means that they will be added to Game Pass.
