For those out there who just can’t get enough of Lord of The Rings, today is a great day for you. LOTR: Gollum just received a ton of new information, not only showing us more of what Gollum’s solo adventure game will be like, but even giving us a release date so we know when we can get our hands on it.

All of this information was compiled by Nerd of The Rings, whose video you can view at the bottom of this page. His video does a fantastic job of getting into all of the little details of Gollum, so we’ll keep it relatively simple in this recap.

First of all, the release date. LOTR: Gollum will release on September 1st, 2022. As Nerd points out in his video, this is more than likely done to capitalize on the Amazon series releasing on the very next day. This show will also feature Gollum as the central protagonist, naturally tying both the game and the series together.

Though still in early development, the developers of LOTR: Gollum showed off some gameplay recently that gives us a clear idea of how the game will be played. This preview shows off the game’s platforming and stealth mechanics, showing Gollum sneaking past several guards. Though Gollum is made to kill an Orc, the devs have said that you can play the entire game without killing a single guard outside of the tutorial.

This gameplay also shows off the Gollum vs Smeagol decision system. Players will routinely be faced with different options for reacting to a situation, with each choice tipping the balance of control towards Smeagol or Gollum. Leaning too far in either direction will change the way characters in the world interact with you.
