Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the most recent and popular installment of the classic kart franchise, has just revealed a new gameplay trailer for Booster Course Pass Wave 5. It will include the new course “Squeaky Clean Sprint”, the new characters Petey Piranha, Wiggler, Kamek, and more.
The new wave is expected this summer, although a concrete release date was not confirmed. The update will be paid DLC, except for players who already have the Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack membership.

Wave 5 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks pretty entertaining. The miniature theme used for Squeaky Clean Sprint is hardly novel, but the theme is very amusing and led to some inventive obstacles on the track. All of the easter eggs in the cleaning products are also fun. This new course may disappoint some fans who were hoping for something grander, but it really seems great for a laugh.
The new characters are all fan favorites. Following the extraordinary success of the Super Mario animated film, it’s fun to see Kamek get the spotlight, and any ties to Mario Kart Tour are a good idea. Mario Kart Tour has consistently been pushing the boundaries of the franchise with interesting, global courses and fun cosmetics, even if its events can get redundant like its recent Mario vs. Luigi Tour.
Introducing critters like Petey Piranha and the Wiggler are welcome surprises, today. They do a great job of spreading out the range of lore across the roster. There’s a decent amount of content overall here, so hopefully future trailers will show a bit more.
