Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has revealed another gameplay trailer for the upcoming Booster Course Pass, which will launch Wave 5 on July 12th, 2023. Aside from a release date, the new trailer also elaborates on the teaser from June by showcasing all of the new courses that fans can expect.
The new wave will introduce 8 more courses, including Wii Koopa Cape, Tour Los Angeles Laps, Wii Moonview Highway, the new Squeaky Clean Sprint, Tour Athens Dash, GCN Daisy Cruiser, GBA Sunset Wilds, and Tour Vancouver Velocity. Petey Piranha, Wiggler, and Kamek will also be new playable characters.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch. You can watch the new Booster Course Pass trailer on the Nintendo YouTube channel:
Naturally, fans are probably still intrigued by Squeaky Clean Sprint, the sole new course. However, there were some real surprises in today’s trailer. Sunset Wilds is a nostalgic selection that’s never looked better, even with such a brief glimpse. And it’s always nice to see the GBA get some love.
Mario Kart Tour’s global flavor is also welcome, and its sheer volume of content is practically fueling Mario Kart 8’s freshness. Nearly half of the new courses come from Tour, which might dismay some fans. But Los Angeles Laps and Athens Dash are both bright and colorful locales that fit with summer.
Moonview Highway was only just added to Mario Kart Tour, for the Night Tour. It’s an unexpected treat to have the track in both titles, which creates more synergy and encourages new fans to try out either game. Moonview Highway also deserves a bigger screen, given its striking landscapes and busy night life.
Ultimately, Wave 5 could use some more variety in its courses, but there are some real fan favorites, and the new characters are sure to please.
