Mario Kart Tour has revealed a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming Anniversary Tour, which celebrates four years of the hit mobile game. It also presents players with some fresh content before the game winds down new updates.
While the game will still be playable, new content won’t be added following the Battle Tour next month, making this Anniversary Tour bittersweet.
Mario Kart Tour will roll out 2023’s Anniversary Tour on September 19th, 2023, at 11 PM pacific time. You can watch today’s trailer for the new tour on the Nintendo Mobile YouTube channel:
It’s a shame for Mario Kart Tour to sunset new content. It has provided more than the core Mario Kart series, as well as a unique global angle that unifies fans worldwide. These courses have also been just as inventive as any from the flagship series.
Many of Mario Kart Tour’s tracks were directly added to the ongoing Booster Course Passes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Los Angeles Laps, Athens Dash, and Vancouver Velocity were all included with July’s Wave 5 Booster Course Pass.
At the very least, most fans seem satisfied with the Anniversary Tour’s farewell content. However, there were still plenty of missed opportunities. Many racers were overlooked for alts, and there were still classic characters to add in. It also would’ve been nice if there were more courses, since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe seems content to rely almost exclusively on old games.
The Anniversary Tour also comes with Wave 41 of the Mii Racing Suits, adding a Koopa Clown suit. Nintendo Mobile offered a gameplay teaser for that too:
Mario Kart Tour’s content has been an incredible journey, ranging from frustrating updates to terrific surprises. Hopefully, the future of the franchise will take a page from Mario Kart Tour’s vibrant creativity and global appeal. It was a nice touch to close today’s tour trailer with the racers crossing the finish line.
