Mario Kart 8 Deluxe only just released Wave 3 of its ongoing DLC updates, which have essentially replaced any intent to create an actual sequel, remaking older tracks with perhaps one or two new additions. For a while, it was Mario Kart Tour that was keeping the franchise fresh, so it’s been a welcome surprise that Mario Kart Tour courses have been included in previous DLC waves to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Some of the original courses in Mario Kart Tour are justified additions, and they tend to have a global, grounded flavor that was missing in the core series. But there’s almost a constant parade of new cosmetics, which are well-designed, cute, and heavily thematic.

With the newest trailer, the 2022 Holidays are no exception. Today’s trailer teases some obligatory outfits like Santa costumes, but Mario’s kart also has a built-in toy bike, and brief glimpses of the gliders show off a totally transparent mistletoe. So, there’s certainly some creativity and surprises too.

Mario Kart Tour does a good job of balancing out the opportunity to grab returning items with novel changes, so be sure to save up your Rubies. There are a variety of ways to accumulate them without purchasing outright, mainly by completing specific challenges and simply logging in.
