Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has just released its first showcase, giving fans a clear look at more gameplay mechanics and features.
Ubisoft is the third-party publisher, so you can watch the full livestream on their official YouTube channel here:
The long-awaited Mario+Rabbids sequel was recently featured in Nintendo’s Direct Mini Partner Showcase, where fans only had two minutes of footage to break down. The story revolves around Mario, friends and enemies alike striving to rescue a mysterious race of “Sparks” from enemies in space.
Nintendo’s recent Direct Mini was somewhat divisive. The content itself was pretty satisfying for third-party announcements, but fans were simply frustrated that the Direct wasn’t featuring first party releases. You can judge for yourself by checking out all of the Direct footage on YouTube:
The new showcase dedicated exclusively to Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope begins by explaining the world, a galaxy born out of the first merging between Mario and the Rabbids.
Next, the showcase elaborates on the story, where the dark entity Cursa has spread across the worlds and sent minions to capture the “Sparks”. The Sparks were a result of the merging process too, and they possess a valuable energy source.
Players will traverse multiple worlds to defeat Cursa, exploring with an open-world freedom. Like other open-world games, fans will have side quests to complete thanks to NPC characters.
It turns out that Cursa also corrupted Bowser’s own army of minions, which explains why he suddenly joined a good cause.
Players have access to three-character teams, and each member will offer unique weapons and opportunities to adapt with various battlefields. For example, Luigi will be a sharpshooter with range, and Bowser will be a “heavy hitter”. Sparks will join the fight, and they have their own abilities too.
Combinations are definitely going to be the key to victory in this installment. Winning a battle gains experience points to level up. Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will release on October 20th, 2022.
