Marvel’s Avengers, the superhero action RPG from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, has released the patch notes for Update 2.8, which is the final content update before support ends. It features an unlocked Marketplace, the removal of Shipments, credit conversion into resources and more.
Official support for the game is still scheduled to end on September 30, 2023. Here’s the announcement tweet from the Marvel’s Avengers feed:
Marvel’s Avengers has always been a middling game for players. Aside from technical issues, there have been frequent complaints about balancing, a lack of content, and so forth.
But Marvel’s Avengers had so much potential, and updates like the War for Wakanda storyline were pretty impressive. This makes it a disappointing farewell, as the game really deserved more support.
The combat feels very immersive, with hard-hitting action and creative abilities that suit each hero. Both its combat and movement are still much smoother than newer comparable titles like Gotham Knights.
There have also been plenty of fun cosmetic updates, referencing all kinds of artists and the MCU. There will be multiple goodbye cosmetics, including new outfits for Black Panther and Black Widow:
Marvel’s Avengers is conceptually sound for the most part, even if everything didn’t always come together. At times, it can feel both underwhelming and underrated. The visuals are decent, and its casual beat ’em up tone is more accessible for fans of the genre. The devs were kind enough to issue a thank you to the fans in a follow-up tweet:
Update 2.8 is a fairly extensive patch, with carefully planned access to content and decent bug fixes. Although there are far fewer incentives and challenges, Marvel’s Avengers should still be laid-back experience, and worth revisiting for breezy action as new superhero games roll in.
