If you updated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, you might have access to the debug mode. Insomniac Games, the team behind Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, announced the problem on X (formerly Twitter). Essentially, players who updated may have accidentally gotten access to a development menu.

Update: Hotfix was released to remove it.

I am no developer, but I do know it’s a really bad thing that multiple people can access the debug menu. Insomniac Games is pretty adamant that anyone with access to it doesn’t mess with it. Messing around in the menu could potentially harm players’ save files and trophy progress, leading to corrupted save files and lost trophies. If you’re curious about the update, we reported on it today.

Insomniac Games has stated that playing the game normally does not pose any risks to players. Save files and earned trophies are secure during regular gameplay. The developer is working on a hotfix to resolve the issue, which is expected to be a smaller update aimed at removing unintended access to the development menu.

The tweet doesn’t specify what the development menu has or how players found it. I’m sure there are ways to figure it out, but we won’t state them here. A computer program’s debug menu or debug mode displays or manipulates its internal state. Software development uses debug menus and rooms for ease of testing, and they are typically inaccessible to users. You shouldn’t mess with it if you don’t know how to work a debug menu or have any programming experience.

The tweet doesn’t mention when the hotfix will be released, but it will likely come soon. Until then, try not to mess with the game; you could render your copy unusable.
